Good reading skills are essential in learning - for reading and for passing exams. In most countries, there is limited insight in the importance of vision in reading despite the fact that reading is one of our most vision demanding activities. In a range of countries, children are vision screened before they start school. This is long before the vision development is finished. Vision develops throughout the years in school parallel to the increase of visual challenges. This project takes place in Tanzania where children go through national exams after seven years of Primary School, but 30 % to 70 % do not pass. The classes in Tanzania have 50-100 students and a serious lack of textbooks makes the blackboard every teacher's basic educational aid. Everything the students have to learn they copy from the blackboard. This is the foundation for tests and exams. The project focuses on the importance of vision in reading and learning, and aims to increase teachers' knowledge in this field so that students achieve better literacy skills.
